Lets make a Planet!

Questions

Come let’s make the planet together!

So tell me students, what will be the shape of the planet? Can we have some show of hands!

Questions

But even a plate is round? How is it different from the round round planet? Do you know the difference between a disc and a sphere?

The disc is round but flat like a plate! Whereas a sphere is shaped like a ball!

Questions

And what is the color of the planet?

Questions

Yes that's right! Its BLUE!

Lets make a blue ball!

First! Take a chunk of clay from your supplies

Students, do you know how to make spheres? Here, Take a chunk of clay and place it between your palms and slowly move them in circular motion. Like this!

Does your ball look like this?

But is this enough? Does the planet look like this?

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

So then what do we do to make this blue ball look more like our planet?

Yes we have to use some green too!

Roll out a thin sheet of green clay.

Use a ruler to cut odd shapes like this.

Once you attach the green to the blue ball, your planet should look something like this!

Wow! The planets you made look so wonderful!

This is a great job!

But...What does the blue represent?

Questions

FUN TIME FACT TIME!

DID YOU KNOW?

That the Earth is 70% water?

YES THATS RIGHT!

If the pizza you had for dinner was made of land and water, then almost 3 out 4 pieces would be water and 1 piece would be land!

Questions

We know that the blue stands for water! But then....What does the green stand for?

.

Questions

The green part stands for the land we live on!

So friends what did we learn about our planet today?

We can easily say that the planet is round, it looks like a big blue ball from way up in the sky because it has lots of water. There is also land on which we stand today!

But...How did it all get there? Do you want to ask Earth to know how it all happened?

Come, lets find out!
