7 / 2 = 3; Remainder 1

The total number that is to be divided is called the dividend

The number of groups / shares you make / number with which you divide  the divisor

The number of items you get in a group  is the Quotient

The leftovers are called the remainders

Place the dividend inside the house and the divisor outside the house.

Step 3

Now recap your two times table till you reach 7 or the number closest to 7 but less than it.

So 2 times 3 = 6

If we take away 6 from 7 we are left with 1

Let’s divide 10 by all the single digit numbers

Now take another number, say what’s today’s date? It is the 23rd of October. Let's take the number 23 and divide it by a few single digit numbers. Trainer will open the whiteboard and write out like this:

Next, take another bigger number. What is your age? Can you tell your age in terms of months? It will either be 72 or 84. Let’s divide 72 by 2.  Try to remember how we did this using our tools. We first divided our 10s and then our ones. So we do the same while we divide in the traditional way.
